Why Does My Ford Audio System Sound So Bad?

February 15, 2016 By Jeremy Lambertson Leave a Comment

Ford Audio SystemHave you noticed that the factory Ford audio system in your truck sounds lifeless? Almost anemic? When you are playing music with crashing cymbals, you don’t hear the sizzle. When the artist is pounding the kick drum, all you hear is a thud, and the bass guitar is almost non-existent. The good news is that Driven Sound & Security in Negaunee, Michigan, can help. We are experts in upgrading the audio system in Ford trucks, and have over a decade of experience in working with them.

Factory Radio Replacement Not Necessary

Ford Audio SystemThe first thing to know is that we aren’t going to ask you to replace the stereo system in the dash, unless your heart desires. The factory Ford radio looks like it belongs in your dash, and often has heater controls and vehicle settings integrated right into it. It isn’t the problem. The problem is your speakers, and lack of power.

Factory Speakers Are The Weak Link

I don’t know if you have noticed, but modern vehicles are coming with more and more gadgets, and more and more safety products. All of this stuff costs money, so something had to take the hit, and your speakers are one area where cost-cutting has applied. You don’t have to be a speaker engineer to see that your original speakers are lousy. They are made with thin paper cones and have very small magnets.

What this means to you is a speaker upgrade is in order. Driven has several levels of speaker upgrades available, from simple drop-in speakers to full-blown component speaker sets with separate woofers and tweeters.

Let’s Talk About Speakers

Ford Audio SystemWhoa, what are woofers and tweeters? Great question. Speakers sound their best when playing limited frequency ranges. You can take a woofer and ask it to play cymbals, but it won’t do a very good job of that. That is where a tweeter comes in. It is a small diaphragm designed to move very quickly and precisely, reproducing the high frequencies in your music with ease. A good tweeter is what gives your music that light, airy sensation that makes the sound bigger than the vehicle. Don’t worry if your vehicle didn’t come with a tweeter location from the factory – Driven Sound & Security can install tweeters in your vehicle and make them look like Ford put them there. Once these are installed, your music comes alive, and driving down the road becomes a joy instead of a burden.

More Power!

What if you want to play your music louder? That means you need more power, and power comes from an amplifier. Driven can integrate an amplifier into your vehicle and give you the power needed to reproduce your music at concert levels. Now when you get in your Ford truck, the party gets started instead of ending.

More Bass!

Ford Audio SystemWe can’t forget about bass. For most of us, that is the greatest part of the music – bass draws us into the song, making us feel like we are at the concert, listening to it live. That feeling of the bass guitar or kick drum hitting us in the chest is truly a moving experience. Our team has a wide range of solutions for adding bass into your truck, from enclosures made by our vendor partners, Stealthboxes from JL Audio, to custom enclosures built in-house.
