The Difference Between Automotive Detailing and Paint Correction

June 4, 2020 By Jeremy Lambertson Leave a Comment

Paint CorrectionDriven Sound and Security in Marquette offers a full suite of automotive detailing services, including professional paint correction. Many of our clients are justifiably confused about the different terminology we use to describe the services we offer. Technology has progressed from the days of the wool buffing pad and carnauba waxes. We felt it would be appropriate to outline the fundamentals of our two most popular services to help make it easier for our clients to choose the right solutions.

The Driven Sound and Security Difference

We start every detailing or paint correction project with an in-person vehicle inspection. We examine the paint, wheels, glass and trim, so we have a thorough understanding of the cleanliness and condition of the vehicle. From there, we’ll suggest a service that aligns with your expectations. If the paint is in good shape and the vehicle needs a thorough cleaning, then a detailing package is likely a good choice. If there are swirl marks, scratches or scuffs, then paint correction is recommended to restore the shine.

What is Automotive Detailing?

Paint CorrectionIn the simplest of descriptions, automotive detailing is like a luxury car wash. Of course, the reality is much more in-depth. Our exterior detailing services start with a foam bath that loosens debris on the paint surface. After dwelling for a few minutes, we use a pressure washer to remove the foam. Next, we spray the vehicle with a fallout remover that loosens rail dust, brake dust and other contaminants that may have adhered to the paint. Notice that we haven’t touched the paint surface yet. Removing debris before washing helps to prevent scratches.

Next, we rinse the vehicle and give it a thorough hand-wash with a soft wash mitt. We work from the top of the vehicle down, and rinse the wash mitt after each half of a panel to remove whatever it has picked up off the paint surface.

Once washed and rinsed, we remove any road tar or tree sap that might be stuck to the paint before cleaning the wheels, tires and wheel wells. We flush the undercarriage to clean out road grime before washing the vehicle again. That’s right: Two complete hand washes ensure that every square inch is spotless. We use a high-power blow dryer to remove the majority of the water, then wipe the vehicle down with a soft dry-weave towel. After another pass with the dryer to get water out of the crevices, we apply Gtechniq C2 Liquid Crystal to add a layer of gloss and protection to the paint. Last, we dress the tires and give the vehicle a final inspection to make sure it’s immaculate.

Paint Correction Services Restore Shine

If the paint surface on your vehicle isn’t perfect, then one of our paint correction packages is your best investment. After inspecting the vehicle, we’ll let you know how much correction is required and how much improvement we can make. Our Level 1 correction starts with thorough decontamination of the paint surface to remove dust, debris and fallout. We go over the vehicle to remove tar and sap that can contaminate and clog our polishing pads. We’ll use a product like Jescar Micro Finishing Polish to refine the paint surface. The polishing process removes swirls and haze from the clear coat. Once polished and inspected to meet our expectations, we treat the vehicle with the coating of our choice to make it easier to care for. You can choose from two-, five-, and nine-year coatings, depending on the level of protection you want.
