Driven Sound & Security sells a lot of remote car starters. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that our winters are cold. We like to think that we sell lots of them because we are known to do a better installation, which ends up giving you a more reliable product.
When we talk to our clients about their different options, the subject of one-way versus two-way remote starter communication always come up. Many times, we then see that “deer in the headlights” look, as technology can be confusing. Here’s the scoop on the different systems:
One-Way Remote Starter Communication
One-way remote starter systems have been around since the beginning. The term “one-way” refers to the communication between your remote control and the vehicle. In simple terms, it means you push a button on your remote control and it “talks” to your remote starter. This is the technology you already have in your factory-installed keyless entry system. This one is pretty easy to understand.
Two-Way Remote Starter Communication Provides On-Remote Confirmation
Two-way remote starters have been around for over a decade, but have really grown in popularity over the last few years. They are known as “two-way” systems because the remote talks to the vehicle, and the vehicle talks back to the remote. Imagine this scenario. You press the remote start button. Almost immediately, you get an audible and visible confirmation back to the remote that your vehicle received the command. Then, 5–10 seconds later, after the vehicle starts, you get a second confirmation telling you it is actually running. Now you know for certain that your vehicle is warming up, and the snow and ice are melting on your windows. Pretty cool, huh?
Forget If You Armed Your System? Find Out Instantly
It gets even better. Let’s say you pull into a parking spot and exit your vehicle. Your cellphone rings instantly and you become preoccupied with the conversation. You realize, after you are hundreds of feet away from your vehicle, that you don’t remember whether you locked the doors. Not a problem. You have a two-way system, so you press the lock button on your remote. It then confirms back to you that the doors are locked. You never have to turn around and walk back to your vehicle or see if the parking lights flashed.
Temperature Feedback Lets You Know Interior Temperature
There’s another great feature. On our two-way systems that have LCD displays, you can tap the remote start button and know the temperature inside your vehicle. Now you know for sure how long to run the vehicle to warm it up in the winter and cool it down in the summer. If you press the remote in the morning and it says 10 degrees, you are going to run the vehicle for 20 minutes or so. If it says 35 degrees, you may only need to run the vehicle for 10 minutes. We love this feature!
We Now Offer Amazing Smartphone Control For Your Remote Starter System
Finally, if you hate carrying remote controls, we can add a Drone system to your vehicle, giving you complete control over starting and door locks from an app on your smartphone. As long as your phone has Internet coverage and your vehicle is parked where your Drone module can access the Internet, you have unlimited range.
