Driven Sound and Security is located in Negaunee, Michigan. We are experts in audio system upgrades – from a simple radio or speaker replacement to a complete custom audio system. We have developed the perfect upgrade path to help our customers improve their audio systems and get better sound and the most bang for their buck, too. We have honed this process over the years to work with today’s well-integrated factory source units. Let’s look at how we do it.
Start from the Bottom
When switching from listening to a set of headphones to listening to the stock audio system in a car, the first thing most people miss is bass. Factory audio systems often don’t have very large speakers, and rarely have enough power to drive them properly. The result: The bass frequencies of your music are not reproduced.
We can add a subwoofer to your vehicle quickly and easily, and the difference in sound is amazing. It becomes warm and enveloping instead of thin and weak. A single 10- or 12-inch subwoofer in a properly designed enclosure and a well-chosen amplifier will more than fill in what’s missing. An additional benefit of adding a sub is that you can turn down the bass adjustment on the radio and let the factory speakers handle only midrange and high-frequency tasks. It is win-win all the way around.
Speak to Me
If you want to wake up your audio system, a significant second improvement is to replace the flimsy factory speakers with something new and better. Aftermarket speakers have less distortion and play a wider range of frequencies. They can handle more power and play a lot louder.
Once you upgrade your speakers, your music will sound more realistic. Voices will be more natural; instruments will seem as if they are actually in your vehicle. We can further fine-tune the performance of the system by mounting the tweeters from a component set in your A-pillars, to make the sound appear to come from right in front of you, just as if you were sitting front-row-center at a concert.
Power Up
Once you have new speakers, the last piece of the puzzle to getting great sound is to feed those speakers with more power. Most factory-installed or aftermarket radios produce about 20 watts of power. That is not very much, especially when you are trying to drown out tire and wind noise. Adding a good-quality amplifier to your audio system will bring those new speakers to life. They will not only be able to play louder, but also sound better – even at moderate volumes. You’ll have the extra headroom so dynamics can be controlled and precise.
Hooked Up
We can integrate an amp for a sub or high-frequency speakers with any factory-installed source unit, thanks to products like the JL Audio FiX82. This product allows us to use the factory radio as a source, and it provides a full-bandwidth audio signal, even if the radio has complicated equalization or time alignment. If your factory system is less complicated, then any of the interfaces and signal processing products from AudioControl will do an excellent job of providing a clean, clear signal for the amplifier.
