The Answers to Top Remote Start Questions

December 1, 2017 By Jeremy Lambertson Leave a Comment

Remote Start QuestionsAs the weather turns colder, our clients here at Driven Sound and Security in Negaunee often ask a lot of remote start questions. We thought this would be a great time to address some of the more popular concerns to give our clients a head-start on getting a remote starter into their vehicle this winter.

How much does a remote car starter cost?

This is like asking how much a car costs – it all depends on what model you choose and the options. A basic one-way, one-button starter can be very reasonable. Outfitting your vehicle with a long-range, two-way LCD remote, a DroneMobile telematics system and automatic rear window defrost activation will be much more.

How long does it take to install a starter?

We typically schedule 2.5 to 4 hours for most common installations. The exact time depends on the complexity of your vehicle and the options you have chosen.

Can I use my factory remote?

Remote Start QuestionsIn many instances, we can install hardware that detects when you press the lock button on the factory remote three times in short succession to start the car. Unfortunately, most factory remotes only work up to a few hundred feet away from your vehicle. Our remote starter systems have up to 3 miles of range, so you care will have more time to warm up.

Does the temperature outside affect my remote starter?

As long as your vehicle would start by turning the key or pressing the Start button, our remote starter system will have no problem getting the warm-up process going.

Do you hide a key in my dash to make the car start?

We have data integration modules that replicate the security functions built into most keys. A few rare cases still require using your spare key. We can help you get a replacement if there are two drivers in the family.

Can someone steal my car when it’s remote started?

Remote Start QuestionsNo, they can’t. Your vehicle still requires that a factory key or fob be present in order for you to drive away. Also, your doors remain locked after the car is started. Your vehicle is just as safe when running on the remote starter as any other time.

Does having a remote starter installed void my warranty?

When installed properly, by an experienced and trained technician, no, not at all. The combination of the premium products we sell, our installation procedures and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act ensures that the components we install will not negatively affect the performance and reliability of your vehicle.

Are you going to surprise me with additional costs after you start work?

No. We never provide one-size-fits-all pricing. Each system quote is based on your vehicle’s year, make, model and trim level, along with the system you choose.
