Lighting is one of the most popular categories we sell at Driven Sound & Security. What we like so much about adding performance lighting to a vehicle is that it improves the cosmetics and the performance. And, just like everything else available for your vehicle, the pricing and quality are all over the place. Nowadays, with modern technology, there is no reason you shouldn’t see clearly at night while driving. Here are some of our most popular lighting products.
HID Lighting
High-intensity discharge (HID) lighting came on the scene years ago and continues to be a popular upgrade for factory headlights and foglights. Essentially, what makes a HID light different is the ballast. Normal bulbs run off 12 volts in your vehicle, while HID lights run off a much higher voltage, since the ballast steps it up significantly. This allows the gas in a HID bulb to fire, and the result is a much whiter light that has significantly more output.
These lights also come in different heat ranges, or colors, called Kelvin ratings. Bulbs in the 5k range look almost perfectly white and, as you move up the Kelvin scale, they go from light blue to intense blue to purple. If you are looking for the best performance, we suggesting staying in the 5–6k range. Now, HIDs are probably the most problematic lights on the road today, as 95% of the kits on the market are junk, and not worth your time. You can also experience flickering, and bulb-out indicators in your dash if the lights are not installed properly. Fortunately, Driven Sound & Security has searched high and low and found reliable kits to offer you. We also know how to install them properly to eliminate all of the bugs that people commonly experience.
LED Lighting
When it comes to adding off-road and auxiliary lighting, LED lighting is all the rage these days. For many vehicles, we have replacement LED headlight and foglight bulbs so you can now experience this incredible technology. These are an instant improvement on technology, so they work well as high beam bulbs, and they come in a 5,500k heat range, so they give off a clear, bright light. Companies now take this technology and make them in your typical round and square designs, but the light bars are what truly sets them apart. You can get LED light bars from 10”–54” in length, so you can let your mind run wild on where you want to put them.
LED Lighting Placement
On popular vehicles, we have options to put lighting in many different locations. Here are some of the most popular applications:
- As replacement foglights
- Behind grills, or as part of replacement grills
- In the lower bumper opening
- Flushed into and mounted on the front and rear bumpers
- Overhead, as roof-mount bars
- In the windshield and hinge mounts for Jeeps
