Gtechniq Ceramic Paint Protection Verses Waxes and Polishes

May 10, 2018 By Jeremy Lambertson Leave a Comment

Gtechniq Ceramic Paint ProtectionIf you are in the Negaunee area and are looking for the best way to keep your car, truck or SUV looking like new, Gtechniq ceramic paint protection from Driven Sound and Security is the ultimate choice. We have talked about the durability and hydrophobic properties of the amazing Crystal Serum Ultra in recent articles. Let’s compare them to waxes and sealers.

What is Gtechniq Ceramic Paint Protection?

Products like Crystal Serum Ultra, Crystal Serum Light and C1 Crystal Lacquer are based on a custom polymer formula that provides a hard, durable coating that bonds directly to your paint surface. This polymer coating is typically much harder than the base paint clear coat and increased resistance to damage from improper washing.

Gtechniq ceramic paint protection coatings also offer excellent hydrophobic properties. Common examples of hydrophobicity include the leaves of plants that keep water droplets balled up into large beads. The hydrophobic effect is what prevents oil and water from mixing.

What is Automotive Wax?

Gtechniq Ceramic Paint ProtectionOne of the most popular ways to enhance the finish of your vehicle is to coat it with a Carnauba Wax. Carnauba wax comes from the leaves of a palm tree that grows in Brazil. On its own, Carnauba wax is too brittle to be used on its own and is often mixed with chemicals like turpentine, beeswax or coconut oil. Carnauba waxes also contain chemicals like ethyl acetate

Though it is the hardest of natural waxes, it has a relatively low melting point of 180-187 degrees F. Though waxes bond well to painted surfaces, the finish does fade after time.

If you want an amazingly rich, deep glossy coating, high-quality Carnauba waxes are amongst the best in the industry. However, they simply don’t offer the durability or longevity of a ceramic coating.

What are Paint Sealants?

High-quality paint sealants are essentially human-made paint protectants. These products have been developed to provide good gloss characteristics and protection against chemicals. Sealants are typically found in liquid form, making them much easier to apply than a Carnauba wax. That said, they don’t offer the same level of transparency and gloss as a premium Carnauba. The trade-off is that they last almost twice as long, giving you some level of protection for at least half a year.

The Ceramic Coating Process – The Best of Both Worlds

Gtechniq Ceramic Paint ProtectionGtechniq ceramic coatings offer the best properties of Carnauba wax and paint sealants. Because our ceramic coatings are incredibly hard, each installation requires that we thoroughly clean and correct your paint surface before installation. We start by degreasing and decontaminating the paint surface before we move to a polish that contains microscopic abrasives to polish the surface smooth. Once we have achieved a perfect surface, only then do we commence the application of Gtechnic Crystal Serum. Buffed smooth and allowed to cure, the result is a deep, rich glossy finish and dramatically increased durability. Though not impervious to damage, ceramic coatings are much harder than any paint finish and resist swirl marks.
